Common Mistakes

  • Using non-treated wood in direct contact with concrete slab foundation (leads to rot).
  • Failing to check that wall frames are perfectly square and plumb before attaching sheathing.
  • Inadequate roof pitch causing rainwater ponding behind shingles.
  • Omitting subfloor ventilation gaps leading to mold buildup beneath floor boards.

Cleanup Checklist

  • Remove construction debris and scrap lumber from site
  • Return unused roofing materials for refund within return window
  • Store leftover paint and sealant in conditioned space
  • Sweep sawdust and nails from surrounding area

Maintenance Tips

  • Inspect roof annually for loose or damaged shingles
  • Re-apply exterior stain or paint every 3-5 years
  • Check for ground moisture wicking into base plate each spring
  • Keep gutters clean and downspouts extending 4 ft from foundation
