Common Mistakes
- Installing siding without a proper drainage plane behind it (trapped moisture causes rot).
- Nailing siding too tight — thermal expansion causes buckling in summer heat.
- Not leaving weepholes at the bottom of brick veneer (trapped water destroys mortar).
- Mixing siding materials without proper transition flashing between different wall claddings.
Cleanup Checklist
- Remove old siding debris, nails, and construction waste from property
- Magnetic sweeper to collect dropped nails and screws from lawn
- Clean caulk nozzles and store sealant for future repairs
- Return unused siding panels and trim within supplier return window
Maintenance Tips
- Inspect siding annually for cracks, gaps, or loose panels after winter freeze-thaw
- Power wash vinyl or fiber cement siding every 2-3 years with gentle pressure
- Re-caulk around windows, doors, and corner trim as sealant degrades over time
- Keep shrubs and vegetation trimmed at least 6 inches from siding to prevent moisture damage
